Well, if you thought Blogchatter E book carnival just has sweet -moralistic-foodilicious-travelworthy- genres only… you are mistaken!! I have picked up Nerd kid Alex by Simon Prathap D which is a Horror thriller and I am already biting my lips ( out of fear..of course)while reviewing it.
Lets explore!!
- Book Title– Nerd Kid – Alex – Horror fantasy haunted episodes
- Author’s Name– Simon Prathap D
- Published by – Self Published on Blogchatter platform during Blogchatter E book Carnival 2020
- About the Author– Simon Prathap D is a full time corporate employee who hails from Kanyakumari and currently lives in Chennai. He discovered his passion for writing horror stories while blogging and sharing life lesson with his readers. He blogs at Penonsite.wordpress.com
- Title and Book Cover- The title is very intriguing and builds up excitement from the start. The neon orange colored fonts on the dark background just stare at your face and you know from the very first instant that you need to put on the seat belt before taking this ride.
- Narration: The narration is very coherent and articulate. All the stories were understandable with clear cut structure in mind.
- Content: The one thing I liked was the portrayal of each character in the book, be it Alex or Bob or Benjamin or Gabriel all the characters justify themselves very well. One can easily visualize the characters with clear description of their mannerisms and dressing styles. The plot is horror and para normal and rightly this book add the thriller quotient to it with right kind of twists and turns. The comic element infused in the character Bob really helped me smile many a times. There were many emotional moments in the book which claims to be a horror and really connected well; one of such is given below:
Gabi dialed ambulance number and called the medics to Frank’s house.
Alex looked at his dad beside covered in blood, he looked at the knife, and he hides the knife under his shirt, quickly dialed for the ambulance, in some time the ambulance reached there on time.
The medics helped Alex and his Dad to come out of the car, luckily his dad were not that much injured because of the air balloon, he still got hurt because the car flipped upside down.
Alex holds his dad’s hand with moist eyes; in moments he cried ‘I’m sorry dad”.
The plot twist with Edwin and Alex family gives this book a very credible climax and I am sure readers will have goosebumps at many instances and will absolutely love this book.
- What I missed? The editing may have been improved a little bit but I understand how difficult it can be even for professionals and I am sure we all understand.

My Interview with the Quirky Author :
Q-Please introduce yourself.
I am Simon. Pen name is also Simon. I’m a collector for chennai, I mean a professional money collector in a corporate. Married to Nisha, it’s been 8 years, we both are Kanniyakumari born. Fundamental defects while manufactured such as overthinking and being introvert. An Atheist by heart, Roman Catholic by certificate, a Human on Earth.
Q-Please tell us how you started writing or what made you think that you can pursue writing.
Nisha, She is behind all this. No not behind now, she is far now, she is 750 km far because of lock down. when I first told her I’m going to write Blog she supported me. It started with writing motivating short stories to inspire others, and with positive bloggers motivations I began to write stories, I’ve tried many genres and I realized the best for me would be horror paranormal. And I will continue writing because I’m good at thinking, why not convert my thoughts into words.
Q-How has been your writing journey so far?
I must say I’m getting better, better than my every last day of writing. I keep learning that is the most important thing in this journey, I have very good critics in hand, remembering all of their advices, One day I’ll publish a book, that’s my goal, and I’m working on my goal everyday, while I paralelly work for an Indian company.
Q-How do you keep yourself motivated to create and deliver?
Did I mentioned that positive personality, Yes that’s my wife and another person is me. I am my greatest motivator. In our terms Self motivated personality. And my imagination have an unique way of making up stories, and that’s my motivation. A story to think a day. 365 stories a year. And that tells me every time I makeup a story, One day these stories will be around the world.
Q-What has been the inspiration to write the current book & what are your expectations from it?
I love to challenge myself and took up a challenge in blogchatter.
Honestly I did not expected anything. I wrote this book to test myself whether I could write a long story in a specific structure and I did it. I did not expect anything for my passion, it’s completely self satisfaction
Q-Do you think are your target audience and what can readers expect from your book?
Horror Paranormal. Sadistic story line, gruesome scenes and a bite of humor.
Q-Please share your favorite part of the book that you enjoyed penning down. You may also share any experience that you came across while penning down the book.
I enjoy writing about my funny characters, Take BOB in this book, thinking about himself is fun. And I hate to kill people in my writing. Experiences will be, I get panic and anxious recalling my scenes, sometime lost sleep too.
Q-How do you envision your writing journey in future?
I wish I could write stories without keyboard. That’s my future way of writing . Did I answer that right? Let me answer this way, a book to spread like corona will be my writing future.
Q-Name your favorite authors/poets. Please share any favorite excerpt from your favorite book.
Sophie’s World by Joestin Gaardner
My favourite of all time.
Excerpt:A white rabbit is pulled out of a top hat. Because it is an extremely large rabbit, the trick takes many billions of years. All mortals are born at the very tip of the rabbit’s fine hairs. where they are in a position to wonder at the impossibility of the trick. But as they grow older they work themselves even deeper into the fur. And there they stay. They become so comfortable they never risk crawling back up the fragile hairs again. Only philosophers embark on this perilous expedition to the outermost reaches of language and existence. Some of the fall off, but other cling on desperately and yell at the people nestling deep in the snug softness, stuffing themselves with delicious food and drink.
‘Ladies and gentlemen,’ they yell, ‘we are floating in space!’ but none of the people down there care.
‘What a bunch of troublemakers!’ they say. And they keep on chatting: Would you pass the butter, please? How much have our stocks risen today? What is the price of tomatoes? Have you heard that Princes Di is expecting again?
Q-What is one strong philosophy that you live by?
Live the present, always wear that smile and give it to others too. Don’t waste today thinking about yesterday and tomorrow.
Failure is inevitable in life. Have you ever faced it? If yes, how did you overcome it? What has been your learning lesson that you can share with us?
There are lot of failures, are you talking about my report cards? I learned I’m not good putting my dad signature. About Life, Failure is part of life, I have faced lot of failures and all I learned is success is nothing but our thoughts and perception to live, best way to live is, Live NOW.
Q-How has recent pandemic affected your thought process and what is one message that you would want to advocate during these stressful times?
Did I said I’m an Introvert? I am celebrating sitting inside. I got plenty of time to think and write some awesome stories. My only advice is don’t let your mind free, keep it occupied schedule your activity from morning to evening, rise early sleep early workout stay fit and keep doing something.
Q-What needs to be done to inculcate the habit of reading and writing among today’s young generation?
It is not something we do will make them read and write, not all kids are same, I will only tell if I have kids, and if they are interested in reading, I’ll teach them to study now and make their books tomorrow. If they are creators I’ll make them work hard so that someone will write a book about them.
Q-Please give your review links to your book so far.
Well I can’t satisfy your expectation of links, but I do can share a link. She is a Philippine romance author and a good friend of mine, do read her review, she is very honest about my work https://jessicaelarsen.com/alex-by-simon-prathap/
