Ahh.. the numbers!

From the moment we are born till the time we are buried, we encounter numbers. The exact time of the birth is noted, the year is taken into consideration. Then with each passing month, numbers become important. One should be able to speak at a specific time after birth, one should be able to walk at a perticular time, then when schools starts, it is about stepping from one class to another. Not just school, the fight with numbers continues. From the marks that we score, percentages that we achieve in studies or the number of medals we bring home in sports determine our value. Then comes that pay package that puts a societal tag on us reminding us of what we are worth. ANd how can we forget the number on the weighing scale determines your sexiness index! Your kindness, your aura or your thoughts do not matter ! Because, hello… they do not come with a number!

Then comes your existence. Yes even that is a number. Your Adhar Card, your ration card ( if any), your passport number, your Driving license number, everything is assigned a number . And the most important amongst them is your phone number! And then the number of people that you get connected with! And most interesting is the number of people that actually get filtered who actually wish you well. Then the number of people who will actually get out of the way to offer help. I am sure that the number in most cases is a tiny, tiny one. Have you ever wondered about the number of hours you wait for the double ticks to turn blue! And sometimes it can really get exhausting! But you do that nonetheless ,because they matter. And the point whether you matter to them or not is a thing that we can dicuss later. But sometimes I think , the numbers that are assigned to us or the numbers that mnake us feel proud or the numbers that we keep chasing do they really determine who we are? Or are we more, infinite, beyond the so called number game?

What happens when we start or atleast try to see beyond these numbers? How about not seeing through the prism of how much they earn but how much compassion, kindness & love they hold in their hearts? Why is it not a norm till now ? Are we as a human race that limited in our capabilities that all we do is judge people by such numbers? The number of books one read, the number of medals one won, the number of properties one owns or now the number of body count one has ! I mean , one should have the liberty to experience life in their own manner but to limit ourselves to judge the whole human existence based on numbers is a little demeaning in my opinion.

What are your thoughts in this regard?
