Love Story of Fire & Ice

Image created with AI

I am the ball of fire, declared the Sun
The Source of energy of all the living beings,
The symbol of life, the harbinger of good vibes.
The ceaseless fusion in my chest
Radiates the eternal shine, eneveitable
For the possibility of life itself.
I am the truth that rises every morning,
Inspiring millions to make the most of the day,
To make progress as my glaze gets brighter,
With each passing hour.
I am whole, unique & many eyes every single time
Look upto me to glow in my glory,
To reaffirm the faith in light over darkness.
A giver needs to give & hence I burn
To keep giving myself, but none wants
To ever know what it is that I seek.
My ever gleaming flames,
seek the solace of coolness,
The inspiration to constantly self annhilate myself.

Meanwhile, the Moon sighed in a corner,
Pondering over thoughts, making efforts to understand,
About dilemma
Whether it is ugly or beautiful,
some say I am with dents & scratches,
While few cite me as the epitome of beauty
I, the Moon pronounced,
Am the showstopper of the night sky
The lover swear their pious love by my very name,
The charm that nourishes the bruised hearts,
A calming effect is what I effortlessly discharge.
But my barren & frigid soul constantly
Searches for the comfort of the warmth of a saviour
One who amplifies my true potential,
Confessed the moon to the galaxies of the stars around.
The Sun & the Moon then looked into,
Each other's eyes and smiled , for they knew
Despite the distance that separated them,
It was also the reason why they both,
Got celebrated each passing day.
They eclipse each other a few times,
Signifying that none of them is without a glitch.
The Sun might rule the day,
But the night is incomplete
Without the Silver Ball.

The Sun & the Moon,
Eternal lovers that they both are,
Keep holding onto each other,
Despite differences in properties,
Teach us some crucial aspects of relationships,
To co-exist in harmony despite in imbalances,
To inspire each other despite the sufferings,
To help evolve each other despite the failures,
To focus on goodness despite many short-comings,
Isn't it ?

  4. Congratulations on your book, dear. I’m not a poem fan though I write some simple ones when the poet in me wakes up. But will surely forward this to friends who love poems. More power to you!

  5. What a beautiful symphony of emotions. Truly, we have never wondered what the sun and moon feel, want or need. We only learn by observing them–apart, yet together and joyful.

  8. A beautiful poem. I like the way you have juxtaposed the emotions of both, the giver and the receiver. Even the source of light to many others may at times seek the glow of another.

  10. Your piece beautifully captures the tender tug-of-war between strength and longing. The Sun and Moon feel alive here — powerful yet vulnerable, distant yet devoted. The way you turn their cosmic dance into a lesson on love and coexistence is simple, wise, and deeply touching. A lovely, luminous read.

There is something about the sun and the moon and their love story that immediately feels magical. Your poem to their difference and love was a lyrical read 🙂

  12. Chinmayee l loved reading your poem. I too, use the reference of the Sun and the Moon, many a times, to depict unattainable love, which is permanaent and pure, but cannot be. The metaphors you’ve used to describe pain and longing is beautiful.

Chinmayee, this is such a well wrought poem that talks about the sun and the moon and their endless relationship. Balance is so necessary in every aspect of life and most times, lovers become complete only when they understand and admire each other. Kudos!

Co-existing, something which we have been missing in a quest to live individualism to the fullest. Your poem brings a hope of co-existence coming back in trend. Melodiously lyrical too.

The poetic allegory of Sun and Moon is contrasting with our self, sadness and warmth within us. I love the balance in every line that inspires me a lot. This is so beautifully crafted.

Very true. Opposites complement each other, for what is light without darkness, what is sorrow if not for joy following it, and what is the sun without the moon? Each may feel jealous of the other but is incomplete without the other too.

Loved this — your poem captures winter not just as a season but as a mood. The cold becomes a companion, the darkness a canvas, and the silence an invitation to feel deeply. Great job transforming chill and stillness into quiet poetry
