There was a lot of noise that seemed like fireworks now. Or rather, I had convinced myself so. Every day felt like a struggle to survive, and every night gunshots made us almost deaf. Stuck in a land where every breath was a miracle, I often wondered what this led to? Wars & dead bodies & orphaned children crying near the refugee camps were evidence that human beings are not the most rational species on this planet.
Just then, I heard a gunshot being fired. I closed my eyes & I prayed again
Not this time… O’ God… Save us!
Love,
Chinmayee

Oh dear!
I wonder that too sometimes. What even is the point of borders and countries. We all live on the same planet. Sigh! Hope the soldier is okay.

Such a short passage, yet it brought me to grief. Warmongers and their senseless reasons prove your statement, that humans are the most irrational species.
Well written. All the best.
