Bonding with Bougainvillea

PC: Unsplash
The petals soon unfurled,
their rose tinted garb shined,
signed across the azure background,
a sight so magical, to behold.

The peachy floret is enchanting,
minus the aroma, it still is breathtaking,
collects praise , sometimes imprecations,
unbothered it blossoms without apprehensions.

                          ***

With two tiny little eyes,
I looked at the open spaces,
vast, free & beautiful,
I weaved dreams in bits & pieces.

Dreams can be many,
but reality has to be one,
echoed voices from near & far
a girl has to be fluid like water.

Water as they say is clear & pure,
takes any form; fits any character,
she has multiple duties to fulfill,
has to alter to be a care giver.

lower your voices, smile with elegance,
walk this way, wear that way,
the world gave it's endless opinions,
as if I was not a human, but a being that's less.

What if I am not water but fire?
what if I am a rebel & not a slave that you desire?
what if I defy your set norms?
what if I don't belong to the preset definitions?

You ,Me & You ,my life is a one time affair,
honesty with you & that's all I care,
I , the woman is also a human,
a soul, that needs equal recognition.

Not just as a mother or a sister,
Not just as a dutiful daughter,
Not just as a half, that ought to be better,
just as a mortal with opinions that matter.

You , Me & You ,my life is not perfect,
perhaps it was all destined,
to fall, to crawl & get realigned,
to be an echo, difficult to be silenced.

                            ***
We looked at each other & time stands paused,
the realization then slowly dawned,
She is perhaps perfect minus the scent,
may be I am perfect too, with all the dents.

I took the tiny flower in my palm ,
a secret shared , a moment surfaced,
You, Me & You , have a lot in resemblance,
a little magic, a little grace & a little radiance.

Love,
Chinmayee

  2. Loved the way you put out a comparison between you, the flower and water. Nothing in us is perfect yet we are we and that makes us what we are. Chinmayee you have a way with words. 😊

This is a beauty, Chinmayee! No surprise, when coming from you! Loved how your words have elevated the humble Bougainvillea to a flower many who read this will look at it differently from now on. I hope they do the same when it comes to people too.

I concur. Why do women have to adhere to set stereotypes of society? So many decades after woman’s lib, and we are still being told how to laugh, how to talk, how to be.
It’s time we learned to accept ourselves as we are, with all our ‘perfect’ imperfections. Only then will society learn to do the same.
Kudos to you for bringing this out in your verse! 🙂

    Wonderfully expressed, Chinmayee.
Totally agree with your thoughts and words.
They want us to be water, they can’t accept that we can be fire or can have any desire!
May truth & honesty in life win as “honesty with you & that’s all I care”.

May all care & stop silencing & judging.
May all start accepting all “with all the dents” and accept the “magic, grace & radiance.”

You have beautifully expressed the reality of the society with amazing imagery and word play. Sadly that reality is stinking. We need to write more and more on such topics till these discriminations are permanently eradicated. Keep the beautiful work going. Thank you so much for being a part of the #UMeUBlogHop. Means a lot.
