7:00 pm- Zoom call continues

28-year-old Nishabd had his day all planned out and he was all a young, fierce soul who had his focus on building his life right from the very beginning. He read multiple motivational books and watched all Ted talks to keep the zeal high in all times to come. His sole aim was not to commit any mistakes that the normal mortals commit by indulging in distractions and unnecessary wastage of time is what he despised the most. The world was in lockdown and when his friends arranged a conference call so that they could have some fun time, he would cunningly make some plans to escape it. “Who is going to waste so much time talking, when a chat is enough! “, he would often think to himself. He loved to spend more time with his laptop than with any human being.

“Hey Bhai, come na let’s watch some fun movies on Netflix. It is the weekend and we still can not go anywhere. I do not want to laugh alone.” Kavita, his younger sister would say.

“I am not going to waste my time on that stupid Netflix. It’s the marketing tactic of Netflix that is ruining our brains to think that watching Netflix is fun! I would rather indulge in something productive.”

“Bhai, you never tag along in anything that I propose! You are not fun.”

“O please, do not emotionally blackmail me. Go find someone else and let me utilize the weekend!”

This was the general conversation that he would have with his sister and would stick to his robotic routine which had gradually been making him behave just like a programmed machine. Only if he could know the reality!

“Okay, so tomorrow is Friday and we will have a fun session with one of our ex-colleagues, who is a Cancer survivor , and let’s look forward to it. I strictly want all your presence in the Zoom meeting”, announced his boss.

” What is the use of such sessions? It will be a normal Gyan session. Eat right, Sleep right, Live right… blah blah blah… I am going to put it on mute and I will be in my own world”, Nishabd thought to himself.

The zoom meeting started and as expected, he put his video on mute and was almost about to zone out when he looked into his computer screen a little harder. What had caught his eye was the heartfelt laughter of the guest! He had anticipated some boring lecture on dos and don’ts from some old guy. But here was a young man, in his forties seated in a wheelchair with toned muscles, resembling like a model and slaying it with his swag. He could not help but unmute the video.

“Yes, my friends, I had my life all planned out. But life gives you lemons exactly when you do not need them. I was devastated but I fought on. Thankfully it was the initial stages and curable so I could defeat the disease. But that was probably not enough. Just when I recovered, I met with an accident and that made me sit on the wheelchair forever. I had lost it by then and had considered of suicide to end the pain. This is not what I had would ever happen to me! I was an active person realized since my childhood! But things happen as they had to happen. Until I realized one day that this was it. I am not going to sulk anymore ! I was not letting a wheelchair dictate life for me. I had never thought that I could give pep talks sitting in a wheel chair. But as a para-athletics champion now , I have gained glory. I have realized one thing in my journey so far. Life is not meant to be lived right, It is meant to be lived in the real sense. You do not know what is going to happen tomorrow. So live life as if every day is your last day. Hang out with friends, family, break the routine a few times, love, laugh, and more importantly have a zestful life. Its okay to make some mistakes, miss some deadlines, get rejected, try again, fail, and then succeed ! Well Life is nothing but a bag full of experiences ,right? I wish you don’t have to go through any grave difficulty to realize how short life is!”

Nishabd, somehow felt as if the session was for him. The laughter of the guest was so joyous that even he tried hard to remember, when did he laugh like that last. How can a person sitting in a Wheelchair be this happy? Was his planning to do everything right actually wrong? Was he actually being zeroed out from life? The session had a deep impact on him for some reason.

Nishabd now has fun watching silly series with his sister and makes it a point to hang out with his friends. He has now made a resolve to attend all zoom calls with life even if he has to say no to a pre-decided set of tasks! He is still focused in life but yes, he has started laughing more now, probably started living in proper sense nowadays!

Let us complain less and try to live a zesty life for life is short and is meant to be lived in real terms with its zigzag pathways.

    Attending Zoom calls with life makes total sense.

    Reminds me of the Hindi movie song from ‘Golmaal’-
    “Aanewaala pal jaanewaala hai;
    Ho sake to ismein, zindagi bitado pal jo ye jaanewaala hai…”

    Let’s promise to have zest for life.
    P.S- My Z post also has “zest” 🙂
