New Year… are we ready for it?

Photo by Roberto Nickson on Pexels.com

With my feeble energy I lay on the bed. The heart feels heavy and it is difficult to breathe. The light seems dim and I think it is already time. After all , its always about the time. It is probably time to bid adieu. I have a promise to keep as well . I think I have done what I was supposed to do !

I can hear the crackers bursting, though not loud enough but still in fewer decibels I hear the merry making. Every one seem happy about my death!! They seem elated and have been waiting for my demise it seems!

Well, I am no one to judge , neither feel any kind of emotions. Duty is what I had to do and I did it with conviction. I too feel relieved that its all over now! The light is fading now and yes yes yes… its completely dark now !! Something just feels different. I feel light. I think I am flying now… well to where…. I know nothing !! It is beyond my control now!! Does ‘The End ‘ always feel like this !!

……………………………………………………….After few moments……………………………………

Ohh…I feel better now ! I can finally breathe… but I feel much lighter now. This door that is in front of me slowly opens and out comes a White Beauty dressed in absolute sparkling snowy attire with a halo on HER head. SHE smiles in a mysterious way and greets me. SHE then gives me a golden leaf .

“You have done a good job. It was a tough assignment but you did it ! This golden leaf is the appreciation,” SHE said.

“Thank you. Now that its done, I think it is time for me to disappear ! Can I have the relieving letter please?” I asked as per the mandate.

“No, you can not be relieved now. You have to wait in the adjacent room and might have to repeat your duties when called upon!” SHE said with a smirk on her face.

“What? No… please no . Not me again.” I begged.

“Do you think you have a choice?” SHE asked with her eyebrows raised.

I kept quite because that was the only option.

SHE handed me a letter and directed me to a room . I entered and sat on the only chair that was there. It was an empty room, painted completely white with a unique radiance . It felt calm there but I was restless within . Then, I slowly opened the letter that was handed over to me. It read as below:

When the greed overpowers need,

when they forget to pay gratitude,

when it seems unnecessary to be kind,

when the boundaries are crossed,

with temptations and urge to have more,

with a hunger that never seems to satiate ,

When they forget that less is more,

when vanity seems to be the order of the day,

You will be called upon to unleash the wrath,

to tame the wild souls find the right path,

sometimes the lessons are tough & harsh,

required to save the planet before the ultimate crash!

With a sigh , I wait and look out of the only window ,

overlooking the place I just left……….THE EARTH !!!

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

The year 2020 has been very tough and life patterns have completely undergone a change . It has taken many sacrifices and has left families grieving with irreparable loss, has set us in thinking mode as to what made this grief unite the entire humanity. Does it always have to be loss that brings us together? Isn’t all our lives interlinked ?Why is that only in tough times , we understand that reaching out to each other is more essential than living an individualistic life ? Why is it that when happiness & joy are abundant, we tend to forget the ones who helped us survive the dark & gloomy days? There are lot of questions to be asked at a personal level which might help in introspection . May we understand that we are answerable to the future generations to come! May we actually prove to be the most intelligent species of the planet earth by our thoughts, actions and options that we select .

Let’s pause, ponder and prepare to understand and reflect the choices we make in our lives taking into consideration what year 2020 meant for all of us.

Are we really ready for this new beginning or is it just change of the calendar?

“Are we really ready for this new beginning or is it just change of the calendar?” these words are very thought provoking. I am afraid, once things get back to normal. people will forget what all they have learned and acquired during 2020. I wish they shouldn’t. I loved you post. It was a very unique way of writing and creative take on the theme.
